Energy Assistance

People with low incomes and fixed incomes can receive assistance in paying their winter energy bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). In Allegheny County, the cash component of the LIHEAP program is administered by the County Assistance Office (CAO). The crisis component of the program is administered by the county Department of Human Services/Office of Community Services. Benefits are typically available beginning in the late fall and continuing through the winter. Dates of operation for the program vary from year to year, as do the amounts available.
